Adoption Policy and Rates
Adoption Policy
Adopting a pet is a long-term commitment — most companion animals will be with a family for 10–20 years. We encourage adopters to make a thoughtful, intentional decision.
Requirements
- Must be 21 years or older
- The entire household should agree to the adoption
- Animals cannot be adopted as gifts or on behalf of someone else
- All animals adopted from CHA must be spayed/neutered
- If not yet altered, adopters sign a legal agreement to complete surgery within CHA’s required timeframe
- For dog adoptions — all household dogs must meet the CHA dog prior to adoption
- Pets already in the home must be spayed/neutered and current on vaccinations (unless medically exempt)
- We encourage all adults & children in the home to meet the pet when possible
- CHA reserves the right to refuse any adoption
Before You Adopt
- We do not recommend adopting if you are in the process of moving
- Make sure you have consistent time to devote to your new pet
- During the first few weeks, keep the household routine calm and predictable — avoid major travel or large gatherings

Spay / Neuter Deposit
All animals adopted from CHA must be altered. Some pets are already spayed/neutered prior to adoption — others are not.
If your chosen pet is not yet altered at the time of adoption, a refundable deposit is required:

| Cat | $50 |
| Dog | $100 |
Deposits are refunded once proof of spay/neuter is provided to CHA.
